Neurologically Based Chiropractic
You might be surprised to realise that as a Neurologically Based Chiropractor I am more interested in your brain function, than I am your back or neck pain. And that’s because your brain controls the rest of your body through your nervous system.
Probably the best way to explain this is through an understanding of the three systems of the body.
The Passive System
The passive system includes your bones, ligaments and tendons. They don’t do much, but they give you structure. And that’s important. It helps you stand against gravity for instance.
The Active System
The active system includes your heart, your lungs, your muscles, your digestive system, and all the other systems that do something to keep you healthy and functioning. Obviously these are essential too.
The Control System
The control system includes your brain and nervous system and all the signals that pass between them. This is the most important system in the body, but is so often overlooked. Without proper control the rest of your body can’t function at its peak. Most people don’t realise that the nervous system has a direct impact on the stress hormones released in your body – adrenalin and cortisol. These are inflammatory and inflammation we know is implicated in many of the more serious health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
So if you’ve got health issues or just feel stuck in a rut, it might well be that your control system is not functioning very well. My job as a Neurologically Based Chiropractor is to help you to get better control and therefore higher function.
